Fast forward in 2014, I am now 23 years old. I moved twice, I live in a big city, I have an amazing girlfriend, I have a very well paid job and I haven’t thought about gambling in years. Which was great.
From time to time myself and my girlfriend along with our friends, we would get together to have a few drinks and play poker for fun. At some point, our little gatherings started to become less and less because, you know, everybody’s got a life and nobody has the time to do what they want all the time.
So I started to look online to see where could I play some poker with real people. I’ve created an account at a casino and went to the “play for fun” section. I was pissed off because of the people that went all in or doing high raises with essentially crap hands. And I started thinking that they were doing that only because there wasn’t a real stake. Win or lose it didn’t matter because the chips were virtual. Surely it will be completely different on real money.
And it was. I was playing good poker on real money even though the stakes were a few cents or a couple of dollars at the highest intensity on the best hands. But after hours and hours of play, there were no real winnings. I was around break even most of the times and even slightly up or behind meant pretty much 5$ maximum.
So I went to the slots section and selected a game. I had no idea what I was doing or what was supposed to happen or even how can you win. I just selected 20 cents to bet and hit “Spin”. Swear to God, 2 minutes later I won 30$. In a 30 minutes session, I won 150$. My deposit was 10$ and my balance was 154.73$.
Not only I was stunned but I actually did not believe it. Online casinos were relatively new in my country back then and I had never heard anybody before winning at an online casino. So I thought that wow, that’s amazing and all that but can I actually withdraw this balance and really get this money? I had 0% trust that I will actually receive the money but I decided to give it a shot anyway. I selected “Withdraw my balance” and waited.
I was surprised to get an e-mail within minutes telling me that I can withdraw my balance as soon as I can provide proof of identity and demonstrate that I am the person behind the account basically. At this point, I was even less convinced that I will ever get the money because I thought that all of it is just a stalling tactic.
For some reason, I decided to give it a try and just give them that information proving my identity thinking to myself that now I can say to everyone that I’ve tried it and it’s all fake and you should never try this yourself.
4-5 days later, the money was in my account. I was speechless and probably hooked right there and then. You can make 150$ in 30 minutes with less than 10$ and the money is real…
That was probably the worst win in my life.
